Armenia-US relations continue to remain firm, and US Congress continues strengthening of ties with Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, Congressman Adam Schiff said in an interview with Voice of America Armenian service.

As to Armenian Genocide recognition, he noted that the efforts to overcome opposition of Turkish government as well as defense and foreign departments of U.S. continue. Congressman said the Genocide denial attempts are very week at the moment.

Adam Schiff thinks that White House refused to display the Armenian Orphan Rug not to offend Turkey, but at the same time the request to display the rug was linked to presentation of a book, a private event, this was also a reason for refusal. Congressman Schiff plans to hold an event at the Capitol Hill to make administration display the rug, he added.

Asked why the Ukrainian authorities were sharply criticized by senior U.S. and EU officials for decision not to sign Association Agreement, and at the same time said they respect decision of Armenia, Schiff noted that both countries would definitely develop much in case of integration with Europe.

However, in case of Armenia, US recognize the decision of the authorities, given the tremendous leverage of Russia in Armenia and Russia’s important role in the negotiations on Karabakh.

Economic integration with Europe is based on the real interests of Armenian people, but Washington understand that’s it is very difficult for Armenia to say no to the Russian bear.
