April 8, Russian and U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev signed a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty in Prague.

Russian side was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Preisdent’s aide Sergei Prikhodko as well as Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.

The document will replace the previous U.S-Russian arms reduction treaty signed in 1991 expired on December, 2009.

The treaty with a validity term of ten years might be extended for another five years by mutual consent or replaced by a new one.

During the press conference, U.S. President noted that two leaders agreed to continue discussion on ballistic missile defense, including exchange of information on threat evaluation.
