YEREVAN. – What occurred on Tuesday in Moscow is the logical continuation of the process that started on September 3.

Political opposition member Davit Shahnazaryan, who is Director of Concord Center for Legal and Political Studies, said the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

As per Shahnazaryan, the second unconstitutional document was signed Tuesday in the Russian capital city, and the first such document was the Armenia-Russia natural gas deal. 

“Armenian authorities do not exist as such, and they represent the interest of the authorities of the Russian Empire. All important decisions are handed over to the Kremlin, whose task is to expand its influence through integration programs,” the analyst noted.      

He added that Armenia is bidding farewell to 2013 with a profound moral and psychological crisis.

“The most degrading slavery is voluntary slavery. No positive process has taken place in Armenia since September 3. [But] perhaps one exception: Armenia agreed to participate in the UN program on conducting peacekeeping activities,” Shahnazaryan said. 

He also noted that if Armenia’s accession to the Russian-led Customs Union and the Eurasian Union becomes formally completed purely in legal terms, the Constitution of Armenia does not function. As a result, all the forces that support this process will find themselves outside the parameters of the Constitution and the law.     

Following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
