YEREVAN. – The main positive trend of Armenia’s current constitutional reforms lies in the fact that the working Constitution concentrates too much power in the hands of the President. And, now, it is proposed to change the current layout.       

The Venice Commission Secretary, Thomas Markert, noted the above-said at a conference Monday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

Markert clarified that the proposed constitutional amendments will lead to a redistribution of power among a variety of functioning persons.

“I believe the second element of the present-day constitutional reforms is conditioned on the desire to strengthen the rule of law in the country. Specifically, attempts are made to strengthen the uninhibited judiciary and the role of the Constitutional Court,” Thomas Markert noted, in particular.
