YEREVAN. – Armenia’s recognition of Artsakh’s (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic; NKR) independence will have a negative impact on the OSCE Minsk Group peace process, and it is also fraught with major military threats.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction Secretary Gagik Melikyan stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Saturday.

“We [, the RPA,] don’t accept the discussion of the issue, since it is premature and it will not bring any advantage to the parties [involved in the Karabakh peace process], except for increased disagreements.

“What has changed from [the fact] that the NKR’s self-determination is not recognized at this time? Today, the NKR, which is declared independent and free, is carrying out major political and economic activities, [and] Artsakh’s self-determination already has been recognized by various international organizations.

“I believe this process will continue, which is convenient for us,” the RPA deputy specifically noted.
