YEREVAN. – The devaluation of the Armenian national currency, the dram, will help the exporters.

Economist Vazgen Safaryan, who is Head of the Union of Domestic Goods Producers of Armenia, told about the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It’s even good that the dram is weakening. It’s good for the development of the [country’s] economy and export.

“In the past, when the dram was strong against the [US] dollar, this contributed to imports.

“On the contrary, now the dram has dropped, and this is beneficial to manufacturers, exporters,” Safaryan specifically noted.

The American national currency (USD) exchange rate against the Armenian dram (AMD) comprised AMD 435/$1 in Armenia on Monday. As a result, the rate soared by AMD 16 in just one day, and this is a huge increase since the fall of the dram back in March 2009.
