YEREVAN. – The health check of Russian-Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan, who is under house arrest in Moscow, was incomplete.

Russian Federation (RF) Human Rights Ombudsman Ella Pamfilova informed about the aforementioned to the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Karen Andreasyan.

“We had to send an inquiry to the RF Ombudsman to find out the grounds for keeping Levon Hayrapetyan under detention considering his health condition.

“Ella Pamfilova responded that her representatives had visited Levon Hayrapetyan. It was found out that his medical was incomplete and, with the mediation by the RF Human Rights Commissioner, additional graphics were drawn to meet with Hayrapetyan’s physician.

“Thereon, on October 3, the Basman Municipal Court [in Moscow] commuted the restraining order [for Hayrapetyan]. It can be said that, thus, our task is solved,” Armenia Human Rights Defender’s advisor Yeranuhi Tumanyants told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In her words, if problems arise in the future, too, they will petition to their associates in Russia.

Levon Hayrapetyan was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15 and subsequently arrested. On July 24, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. On September 12, the Russian-Armenian businessman was charged with fraud, too. On October 3, however, a Moscow district court ruled in favor of releasing Hayrapetyan from prison and placing him under house arrest.

Even though Levon Hayrapetyan has health problems, he was kept in prison for a long time. Hayrapetyan’s detention will terminate on December 15.
