STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR; Artsakh) President Bako Sahakyan on Monday paid a visit to Fresno, California, USA.

The President laid wreaths to the Armenian Genocide Memorial being built in the city, the monument of prominent American-Armenian writer William Saroyan, and the tomb of outstanding figure of the Armenian national liberation movement, Soghomon Tehlerian, informed the Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President.

On the same day, Sahakyan visited the Honorary Consulate of Armenia in Fresno, and he met with Honorary Consul Berj Apkarian and representatives of the local Armenian community.

The implementation of various programs in Artsakh were discussed during this meeting.

The President also touched upon the domestic and foreign policy of the NKR, the avenues for the settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict and the regional processes, and responded to questions posed by those in attendance.

Bako Sahakyan highly praised the contribution of the Fresno-Armenian community in assisting Artsakh and added that, being one of the most important Armenian communities, the Fresno Armenians have played a tangible role in strengthening Motherland-Diaspora ties, maintaining the Armenian national identity in the Diaspora, and developing the Armenian-American relations.

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Aghabekyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the US Tigran Sargsyan, and several other officials also attended this event.
