Armenia has never posited any conditions before Turkey, including in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. 

The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, said the abovementioned speaking to the “Opinion” program on Russia-24, a state-owned TV news channel in Russia.  

Sargsyan recalled that even though he had tried to normalize Armenian-Turkish relations, the Turkish side had always thwarted these attempts.

“We became convinced once again that the authorities of Turkey are broadening the tools of [genocide] denial policy,” the President added.

At the same time, however, he noted that he does not know how fast will increase, among the Turkish society, the number of people who are ready to recognize the Armenian Genocide, but “we are seeing a positive trend, and we thank those citizens of Turkey who have started this movement.”    

The President stressed that the Armenian Genocide Centennial is a very important event for Armenians living in different parts of the world. He noted that the centennial commemorations will be held around the world, and the main remembrance event will take place on April 24 at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

“It’s a great honor for us that the leaders of our fraternal countries will arrive in Armenia on that day,” Serzh Sargsyan stated stressing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s expected attendance also among the leaders of several other countries.
