Senate of the Republic of Italy member Emilia Grazia De Biasi, who is also Chairperson of the Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Thursday delivered an address at the Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony in the senate.

The senator, in her remarks, cited excerpts from an interview that was conducted with Giacomo Gorini, the Consul of Italy to Trabzon in 1915, and she noted that this Italian diplomat’s witness accounts about the extermination of the Armenians are among the key Italian documents.

Subsequently, Senator De Biasi underscored Pope Francis’ recent recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the European Parliament’s recent adoption of a resolution on this genocide.

Following the address, the Italian senators stood a minute of silence in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The text of Emilia Grazia De Biasi’s address is posted on the website of the Senate of the Republic, and it is widely covered by the Italian mass media.
