YEREVAN. – Armenia and the European Union (EU) have adopted a joint declaration, where it is noted that the sides wish to continue cooperation in all directions that do not conflict with the commitments which Yerevan has assumed within the framework of other integration processes.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, said the abovementioned at Monday’s joint news conference in capital city Yerevan, and with his Belgian counterpart, Didier Reynders. Nalbandian stated this in response to a Belgian reporter’s query on his expectations from the upcoming EU Eastern Partnership Summit to be convened in the Latvian capital city of Riga, in the case when Armenia has become a member in the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

“I am confident that we will announce about this also at the Riga summit,” the Armenian FM stressed.

“At the Riga summit, we [i.e. the EU] would like for each Eastern Partnership program member country to be able to go further on the basis of its potential and already achieved success.

“We always believe that we need to work with different partners. [But] the fact that the agreements were signed with the EU does not mean you can’t have agreements with other neighbors, too,” Reynders specifically noted, for his part.
