YEREVAN. – Until now, there was solely a business monopoly in Armenia, but now, they want to set up a monopoly on the workforce, too.

Opposition Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party National Assembly (RLP NA) Faction member Hovhannes Margaryan noted the abovementioned at Friday’s NA briefings, as he commented on the bill of draft amendments to the Law on Income Tax.

“That means that now the people [in Armenia], who travel abroad for a slice of bread, to earn money, have no say. The [Armenian] state wants to set up control over labor migration and new tax collection,” Margaryan said, and added: “We are against [it]!”

To note, the aforementioned bill proposes a 13 percent tax on Armenian citizen contract workers who work abroad; this refers to the companies that will conduct work with foreign tenders. These draft amendments will apply to the Armenian citizens who work outside Armenia for at least 183 days.
