YEREVAN. – Peru’s first ever Ambassador to Armenia, Humberto Umeres Álvarez—whose diplomatic residence is in Moscow—, on Monday presented a copy of his credentials to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ashot Hovakimian.

First, Deputy FM Hovakimian congratulated Ambassador Álvarez on his appointment, and expressed his satisfaction in connection with the accreditation of Peru’s first ever ambassador to Armenia. The deputy FM stressed that there is great potential for expanding relations, and expressed the hope that the new Peruvian ambassador will contribute to making bilateral collaboration grow deeper.

Ambassador Álvarez, for his part, stated that he will do his utmost to assist in the development of Armenia-Peru bilateral relations.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors conferred on the steps that need to be taken to intensify political discourse, and create economic and cultural ties between the two countries. 

They also discussed the continuation of cooperation within international organizations, and Peru’s plans to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union—which comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Ashot Hovakimian and Humberto Umeres Álvarez also reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and regional matters.
