YEREVAN. – According to sources close to the authorities, the last well-known incident linked to the beating and kidnapping of a shareholder of Air Armenia airline company may end in Ruben Hayrapetyan’s resignation as President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.
“It is intended that Hayrapetyan will not be brought to criminal accountability, but be dismissed from the position of FFA President.
“As you recall, in 2012, after military doctor Vahe Avetyan’s deadly beating in Harsnaqar [Restaurant] Complex belonging to Ruben Hayrapetyan, Hayrapetyan, after meeting with [President] Serzh Sargsyan, gave up his parliamentary seat.
“Accordingly, the beating of Air Armenia shareholder Asen Avetisyan could cost just the FFA President’s office for Hayrapetyan, albeit the disseminated information suggests that there is crime in his actions,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
As reported earlier, Arsen Avetisyan’s wife, Izabella Melkumyan, had petitioned to the President of Armenia with a request to ensure her husband’s safety. Melkumyan had stated that her husband was beaten by the bodyguards of Ruben Hayrapetyan. Avetisyan was beaten by seven or eight people, and in the presence of numerous people. Arsen Avetisyan has made a claim to law enforcement.
