Armine Vardanyan, Resident of Artimet village of Armenia’s Armavir province, gave birth to her twins several hours before New Year. The labor contractions, which started suddenly on 31 December 6 years ago, didn’t allow her to finish the last preparations for the holiday table.   

“I wanted to make salads when the labor contractions suddenly began. Doctors told me they would do Caesarean section and appointed the day, January 12. Thus, nobody thought I would give birth that day. I was taken to a hospital and everything happened so fast that in two hours the children were born in a natural way,” Armine told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

She remembers New Year 2010 as the most extraordinary and happiest one. At midnight the first guests were welcomed in the ward, where there were three more maternity patients. “We put everything we had – food and drinks – on the table and welcomed New Year with fruit and juices,” Armine said.

The young mother stayed at the maternity clinic till January 3. She signed out with her twins and went home on January 4, her husband’s birthday.

According to Armine, celebrating birthday on December 31 is difficult. Even the closest relatives find it difficult to visit them that day: everyone is getting ready for New Year at home. The mother realizes that when the twins grow up and want to celebrate their birthday with friends, December 31 will no longer be the most convenient day. Thus, the Vardanyans are already turning into tradition the birthday celebration of twins Sofia and Gevorg on January 1.
