YEREVAN. – In the first nine months of the current year, a total of 251 foreigners have petitioned to Armenia to seek asylum. 

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned the aforementioned from the website of the Armenian State Migration Agency.

Over the course of these nine months, one Azerbaijani, South African, Nigerian, Czech, and Georgian citizen each as well as 3 Guinean, 18 Iranian, 62 Iraqi, 5 Lebanese, 3 Yemeni, 73 Syrian, and 82 Ukrainian citizens have petitioned for asylum in Armenia.

The respective petitions by 55 of these foreign nationals were either suspended or discontinued, 27 petitions were rejected, and 148 asylum seekers were granted refugee status in Armenia.

In 2014, a total of 226 foreigners had petitioned to Armenia to seek asylum, and 136 of them were granted refugee status.
