Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) human rights activists Karen Ohanjanyan and Svetlana Jhangiryan on Wednesday paid a visit to Azerbaijani citizens Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who are inmates in the penitentiary of Shushi, NKR.

Askerov and Guliyev are serving prison sentences for the murder of an NKR citizen, and conducting sabotage and reconnaissance operations in the NKR.

The objective of Ohanjanyan’s and Jhangiryan’s visit was to get familiarized with the detention and  health conditions of these Azerbaijani prisoners.

The NKR authorities fully enabled the human rights activists to get acquainted with the prison conditions of these Azerbaijani citizens. 

Karen Ohanjanyan and Svetlana Jhangiryan had a long conversation with each one of these Azerbaijani prisoners separately, and the latter expressed sincere satisfaction with their detention and  health conditions.

The respective statement notes that, as a result of this visit, it should be noted that the prison conditions of Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev fully comply with the norms of international humanitarian law, and the NKR authorities are doing everything to prevent the violation of these norms.
