YEREVAN. – France has always stated that it stands ready to host the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, to seek decisions toward the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier said at a press conference on Tuesday. 

The French diplomat noted that the respective work is in progress with their Russian and American partners, and within the framework of close cooperation.

“Along the lines of the [recent] Warsaw summit [of NATO], [French] President [François] Hollande met with his colleagues Serzh Sargsyan [of Armenia], and Ilham Aliyev [of Azerbaijan],” recalled the ambassador. “Naturally, settlement of the conflict was on the agenda.”

In his words, France is considering the possibility of a meeting as a chance toward conflict settlement.

And as for the media reports, according to which the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group co-chairs (Russia, US, and France) have disagreements with respect to the mechanisms to be introduced to investigate incidents at the Karabakh conflict zone, the French ambassador noted that there is neither a misunderstanding nor a disagreement on this matter. Jean-François Charpentier added that the deployment of these mechanisms is very important in terms of the prospects for the negotiations.
