Japanese Emperor Akihito intends to abdicate in a few years, NHK reported.

At the same time, it is noted that after abdication he could hand his duties to his son.

According to sources, the emperor wants to abdicate  before he is too frail to carry out his duties fully. It is also specified that the emperor has already informed the members of his family.

In February it was reported about  the Emperor’s deteriorating state of health. Then he was diagnosed with the flu. All events with the participation of the emperor were canceled.
