Senator Chuck Schumer of New York will become a new minority leader of Democrats in the Senate. The second senior Democrat in the Senate will be Dick Durbin of Illinois, whereas the assistant leader will be Senator Patty Murray of Washington, reports the Voice of America.

Democrats elected Schumer unanimously in a closed voting on November 16. He will supersede Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, who, after having served 30 years in the Senate, will resign in January.

According to Schumer, Democrats will cooperate with Donald Trump over the issues, where they have similar views, and will try to oppose him in case he violates American values or hinders a progress.

Chuck Schumer will be the most influential Democrat in Washington during the presidency of Donald Trump. Republicans will be keeping White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate under their control. 
They took 52 out of 100 seats in the Senate. Yet, the democrats 
will be able to influence decisions on important issues. Most likely they will apply the strategy of filibustering, for Republicans to gain 60 votes to be able to fight against them.
