According to the results of the public poll, the number of supporters and opponents of Catalonia's independence from Spain splits evenly, reports RIA Novosti.

A Catalan government opinion poll indicates that 45.1 percent of respondents support the independence of Catalonia, whereas 44.9 percent are against. The quantitative difference between supporters and opponents of independence fits into the framework of the statistical error.

The survey was conducted from October 17 to November 3; 1500 people were involved. The latest survey was conducted in June. Then, 47.7 percent of responders were in favor of separation from Spain, whereas 42.2 per cent were against.

Catalonia's government, and some NGOs believe, that Catalonia should become independent from Spain. These institutions are taking steps in this direction, which the Spanish authorities and the country's Constitutional Court recognize as illegal. Catalonia's parliament passed a resolution on October 6, according to which there will held a referendum on independence of Catalonia until the end of September, 2017.
