Constantine Stephanopoulos who was the president of Greece from 1995 to 2005, serving the two full terms allowed by the Constitution, died at the age of 90. He was suffering from multiple organ failure and was not responding to treatment, AP reported.

Stephanopoulos, a lawyer by profession, was born in Patras in 1926 and held various ministerial posts in the government of Greece in the period from 1974 to 1981. He also applied for New Democracy party leadership, however his attempts in 1981 and 1985were unsuccessful.
