French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy has announced about quitting policy.

The ex-president came up with such an announcement after his defeat in the first round of primaries, which determined the Republican Party candidate for participating in the upcoming presidential elections in the country, DW reports.

Sarkozy, who came only third, accepted his defeat without waiting for the vote counting results.  “I didn’t manage to persuade the majority of voters,” he said. The ex-President congratulated former Prime Minister Francois Fillon and country’s FM Alain Juppe on entering the second round.  The ex-President also announced that in the second round of primaries – which is slated for November 27 – he will vote for Fillon.

After the vote counting, Fillon continue to be on the lead with almost 90 percent of votes, winning the votes of 44.2 percent of voters from among those who took part in the primaries. Juppe came second with 28.3 percent, being ahead of Nicolas Sarkozy by about eight percent.
