The UK rejected the request of the U.S. President-elect to appoint former leader of the UK Independence Party, one of the initiators of Brexit Nigel Farage as the UK ambassador to the U.S., Voice of America reported.

Farage supported Trump during the presidential campaign and met him after the victory.

“Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job!” Trump tweeted.

British PM Theresa May who congratulated Trump on his victory hurried to reject as undiplomatic proposal.

“There is no vacancy. We have an excellent ambassador to the U.S.,” a withering statement released by Downing Street clearly stated.
