Reinstating the death penalty in Turkey will demonstrate that this country has no wish to become an EU member, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Tuesday, TASS reports.

According to her, it is necessary to clearly understand what Turkey wants.

Mogherini also stressed that both Ankara and Brussels will lose from halting the negotiation process aimed at Turkey’s accession to EU.

By the end of August, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that he will support reinstatement of death penalty in the country if the parliament also votes for this measure.
