Berlin urges EU and Turkey to refrain from the escalation of conflict between them.

“The threats from both sides will not help to move forward,” Deputy Spokesman for the German Government, Ulrike Demmer, said, DW reports.

In her words, to get out of the difficult situation it is necessary to talk with each other. Demmer stressed that the German Government considers the agreement between the European Union and Turkey a “common success,” all parties being interested in its implementation.

Earlier, the European Parliament voted for the resolution, calling the European Commission to freeze the talks with Turkey, as well as approve the provision on automatically halting the talks if Ankara introduces death penalty. The non-binding document was adopted in response to the wave of arrests of opposition representatives and journalists in Turkey following the failed July coup.
