The Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev considers the popular belief of the West that Russia is trying to recreate the Soviet Union by means of EEC unreasonable.
"In Europe, they say that Russia wants to restore the Soviet Union. It’s a complete nonsense. First, it’s me, who is the initiator of this association. I suggested it, and I have always been talking about it. It is an economic union, "he said in an interview with Bloomberg, aired on Khabar TV channel on November 25.
According to Nazarbayev, there is no politics neither in the charters, nor in agreements, nor in contracts of the EEC. "The decisions are made absolutely on consensus. If one of the parties is against, the decision fails to pass. In other words, it is an economic union, which is favorable for us, "he stressed.
The Kazakh President recalled, that he had suggested to hold a conference with EEC countries and the EU, during which two sides could find ways of intergovernmental cooperation. "Here, I’ve also applied to the European Commission. Let us meet in Europe and discuss what the EEC and the EU are. Let’s hold a conference in Brussels, and explain it, "Nazarbayev said.
