Kenya's High Court declared illegal the decision of the authorities to close one of the world's largest refugee camps located in Dadaab, 100 kilometers away from the border with Somalia. The court ruled, that the government violated the country's constitution, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs exceeded its powers, reports DW. In addition, the court recognized the actions of the government to deport the refugees as a targeted repression against Somalis. 

The government in Nairobi plans to appeal the decision of the High Court. The authorities indicate, that Somalia has its own government and the president, and that the situation in the country is stable enough to allow people to return home. The Kenyan government is firmly determined to close the camp is Dadaab, because it believes, that the camp is used by Islamists to recruit new fighters and prepare terrorist attacks in Kenya.

The human rights activists insist, that the Somalis, who flee their country because of poverty and Islamist attacks, will be affected by the current actions of the Nairobi government. 

The camp in Dadaab has long been considered the largest in the world. In 2011, when the conflict in Somalia escalated, 580 thousand people found a refuge in that camp. Last year, according to various estimates, their number made 250 - 350 thousand. The Kenyan government plans to close the camp by May 2017, sending back hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees.
