South Korea will join three U.S. aircraft carrier strike groups in a joint drill on November 11-14, Reuters reported.

South Korean naval vessels will take part in the drill off the east coast.

The Pentagon said the drill involving three aircraft carrier strike groups in the Western Pacific would be hold for the first time in a decade.

In total, seven South Korean navy vessels will accompany 14 U.S. naval warships.

During the joint drill, both countries will practice air operations, air artillery strikes and aircraft carrier escorts to test their ability to jointly conduct such operations.

The drills also will be a response to North Korean nuclear and missile provocations, and will show that any actions by Pyongyang can be repelled with “overwhelming force”.
