Pope Francis said he was afraid about the danger of nuclear war, Reuters reported.

“I think we are at the very limit. I am really afraid of this. One accident is enough to precipitate things,” Pope told reporters during the fly from Rome to Santiago, adding that it is necessary to destroy weapons and make efforts for nuclear disarmament.

Pope Francis handed out a photograph taken after an American nuclear bombing in August 1945 to warn the world from the nuclear war.

On Monday morning, Pope flew from Rome to Santiago, starting his 22nd apostolic overseas trip, during which he will visit Chile and Peru. The pontiff is scheduled to return to Vatican on January 22.
