Former South Korean president Park Geun-hye has been sentenced to 24 years in jail on corruption charges.

The court issued the verdict on Friday after convicting Park of bribery, abuse of power, extortion and other charges, AP reported.

The verdict was broadcast live on South Korean television. Park refused to attend the court session citing sickness.
