Incoming acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Sunday that President Trump was not going to change his mind about pulling US troops out of Syria, even after both his secretary of defense James Mattis and Brett McGurk, the top US diplomat for the campaign to defeat ISIS, have resigned because of the decision, ABC News reported.

“Is there any chance the president changes his mind about this and reverses course?” ABC News asked Mulvaney in an interview.

“No, I think the president has told people from the very beginning that he doesn’t want us to stay in Syria forever,” he responded. “You’re seeing the end result now of two years worth of work.”

On December 18, the White House announced that the US had started withdrawing its troops from Syria, but the victory against ISIS did not mean the cessation of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
