Germany will oppose the deployment of the new nuclear missiles in Europe if a key Cold War-era arms control treaty is scrapped, said German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

"Under no circumstances should Europe become a stage for a rearmament debate,” Reuters reported quoting Maas.

"Stationing of new medium-range missiles would be met with broad resistance in Germany," FM said.

The US threatens to withdraw from the INF Treaty, which prohibits Moscow and Washington from deploying short-range and medium-range ground-based missiles in Europe.
