After passing through the Suez Canal Iranian warships docked at the Syria port.
Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said arrival of the vessels fully conforms to international norms.
“The aim of Iranian warships’ visit to Mediterranean Sea and Syria has been sending message of peace and friendship to regional countries,” Iran-based ISNA news agency quotes Sayyari.
He also stressed that the vessels passed the Canal after the mission had been coordinated with Egypt.
Two Iranian warships entered the Suez Canal on Tuesday morning. It is the first time an Iranian warship enters the Canal since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Earlier this week Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared Tehran is trying to use advantage of instability in Egypt calling the move “an Iranian attempt to expand its influence in the region.”
