Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is for an active discussion of massacre of Armenians in the Azerbaijani cities within various international agencies, MP from RPA Hovhannes Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, members of the Republican Party raise these issues at the meetings with representatives of international organizations. The MP stressed that the international community must condemn the massacre of Armenians in Azerbaijan in the late 20th century, thereby preventing further crimes. In this regard, Sahakyan questioned whether it is in the interests of the world powers.

Speaking of the Heritage Party’s initiative that the National Assembly of Armenia should adopt a bill branding the massacre of Armenians in Azerbaijan as genocide, Sahakyan said that the draft must first be presented and studied.

As a result of three-day long pogroms in the Azerbaijani city of Sumgait dozens of Armenians were killed, many of them - burned alive after beatings and torture, hundreds were wounded. Many women, including under-age girls, were, raped. According to official information, 26 Armenians were killed another 100 were seriously injured.
