The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on a trilateral meeting between Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents scheduled for March 5 in the Russian city of Sochi.

Trilateral format of talks on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict enabled to reconcile positions of the sides and strengthen confidence- building measures, said representative of the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Lukashevich.

Russia spares no effort to achieve progress with the assistance of other OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, he said, adding that three trilateral meetings took place last year. These contacts enabled to reconcile position of the parties and strengthen confidence-building measures.

He noted that during the Astrakhan meeting Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan expressed readiness to continue work on fundamental principles for the conflict resolution.    

“We believe during the Sochi meeting President Medvedev will get an opportunity to analyze work carried out in the period between the summits and determine future steps to find a mutually acceptable solution to the Karabakh conflict,” he said.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, trilateral meeting of the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents will take place on March 5 in the Russian city of Sochi.

The Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani last met in October 2010 in the Russian city of Astrakhan. During the last year’s meeting the sides agreed on exchange of prisoners of war and return of the bodies.
