During its April 4 session, the government exempted 27-year-old Ferdinand Karapetian from compulsory military service.

Ferdinand Karapetian is a member of the Armenian national judo team and a European champion. He was deferred until the winter military call-up of 2018 under the government decision of 12 November 2015. Ferdinand Karapetian will train and participate in the ratings competitions for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 2019 and 2020 European and World Championships.

Taking into consideration the above-mentioned, a need has emerged to exempt him from compulsory military service.

Part 5 of Article 21 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On military service and status of military serviceman” and the Decision of 15 February 2019 “On establishing the procedure for exempting a citizen from compulsory military service in exclusive cases” were accepted as a basis for the government’s decision.
