Since 1 April, the Oversight Department of the Ministry of Finance has been conducting inspections at Shirak State University, as the Ministry of Finance told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The inspections are being conducted upon a decision taken by a law-enforcement authority.

In July 2018, cases of appropriation of funds in large and particularly large amounts by using prima facie official position and fraud were revealed at Shirak State University, and a criminal case was instituted under the elements of point 1 of part 3 of Article 178, points 1, 2 and 3 of part 2 of Article 179 and point 1 of part 3 of Article 179 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

Last year, Rector of Shirak State University Sahak Manasyan filed his resignation, and Yervand Serobyan was appointed acting rector.
