On 9 April, acting Minister of Diaspora Babken DerGrigorian received Director of the Mekhitarist Center in Armenia, Abbot Yeghia Kilaghbian and Deputy Director, Abbot Kevork Sarkisian.
Greeting the guests, DerGrigorian considered the contributions and activities of the Mekhitarist Congregation to and in Armenia and the Diaspora as invaluable. Established in 1994, the Mekhitarist Center in Armenia is of essential significance and houses the Zharangavorats School, a chapel and a library.
Currently, the Zharangavorats School is facing some problems. According to Abbot Yeghia Kilaghbian, the students who leave for St. Lazar upon graduation need to receive a right to deferment from military service, especially since they are few in number. Babken DerGrigorian stated that the Ministry of Diaspora will consider the issue and work on solving the problem since the solution to this issue will help ensure the continuation of generations of the clergymen of the Mekhitarist Congregation and preservation of the legacy of the Congregation in the Diaspora.
