On March 8, the security forces opened fire on demonstrators demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Saana.

According to witnesses, one was killed, over 60 people were injured in the unrest.

Policemen opened fire on demonstrators to prevent people from joining thousands of protestors who had gathered near Sanaa University, RFE/RL reports.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said that he would remain in power until his term expires in 2013, rejecting the opposition’s demand to resign this year.
