Short- or long-term price control will be a priority for the Armenian authorities, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated at a conference on economic policy priorities in Yerevan.

"I would like to see better cooperation between the Armenian Government and Central Bank in this matter, as well as bold and unconventional steps," the Armenian leader said. "I am well aware that the essentially reduced budgeted deficit, economic boost and monetary policy will produce certain results. However, we cannot be content with that. We need more. I want us to more thoroughly deal with this problem for our Supervisory Service and Economic Competition Protection Commission to be involved in this process," President Serzh Sargsyan said.
"I expect individual officials to better understand the formation of prices for essential goods. We have all the means of resolving the problems by law," the Armenian leader said.

The President pointed out the need for serious work with producers and importers to boost competition.
"The Government and Central Bank must realize that we must have an inflation rate of twice as low at the end of this year than last year. I will focus my attention on this goal," the President said.

Participating in the meeting were Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan, Head of the RA Presidential Administration Karen Karapetyan, Vice-Premier, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan, Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Artur Javadyan, as well as the Chairman of the RA State Revenue Committee, Chairman of the Economic Competition Protection Committee and other government members.
