Nothing hinders France to stand for the principle of nation’s right to self-determination, MP from Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Artak Zakaryan stated in an interview with Aravot daily. He commented on French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe’s statement in the French parliament on March 9: “No doubt, peoples’ right to self-determination is a fundamental principle of settling any conflict.”

“Thus, one of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries reconfirmed a lack of hierarchy between nations’ right to self-determination and territorial integrity. We can say Azerbaijan’s pseudo-legal statements that the principle of people’s self determination is inferior to principle of territorial integrity are no longer of high importance in Karabkh conflict resolution. It can be said that the states have changed the general approach of these two principles ratio, which is seen in France-pursued foreign policy in the recent years.

He recalled that France had some problems with separatist organizations in Corsica, but they are not urgent now. “The problem of Corsica is no longer an obstacle to France in the principle of people’s right to self-determination,” he said.
