Reports about Armenian roots of President Gul’s mother were spread by suspects arrested in connection with the Ergenekon case, Turkish Zaman newspaper reports.
One of the documents found by police in Oda TV office indicates suspect Yalcin Kucuk was spreading misinformation through media for Ergenekon. During a phone conversation chief editor of Oda TV Baris Pehlivan got instructions from Kucuk in December 2008 to continue spreading reports about Gul’s mother, the newspaper writes.
In 2007 discussions about Armenian origin of Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s mother were initiated by owner of Turkish Oda TV and reporter Soner Yalcin and were continued by MP Janan Aritman who is known for his anti-Armenian position.
A month ago owner of Oda TV and several journalists were arrested in Turkey in connection with the Ergenekon case.
