The European Parliament attaches importance to Armenia’s commitment to reforms, increase of transparency, democracy, modernization of legal system and human rights protection, said had of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.
During the meeting with Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan he stressed they are concerned over the Karabakh conflict and would do their utmost to ensure security in the region. Buzek also noted military conflict must be avoided at all hazards. The head of the European Parliament stressed importance of ratification of Armenia-Turkey protocols. He expressed gratitude to Armenia for joining Euronest, noting the first meeting is scheduled for May. “I am hopeful we will meet in Yerevan in May and it will give an opportunity to discuss issues related to the regional developments,” he said.
Speaking of relations with Turkey, Tigran Sargsyan stressed Armenia’s stance was precise and Yerevan was ready to normalize relations without preconditions, governmental pres service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. “Our position on the Karaabakh peace process is clear as well – there is no alternative to peaceful solution,” he added. As to Euronest, the Armenian side is interested in successful work of the structure and is confident it will promote reforms in direction of European integration, Armenian PM said.
