A fighter jet was shot down this morning over Benghazi, Sky News reports. Earlier today Al Jazeera television reported forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi entered the western outskirts of Benghazi.

Yesterday Libyan authorities decided to halt military operations against the rebels in response to UN Security Council’s resolution which stipulates creation of a no-fly zone over Libya.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Gaddafi’s opponents seized many cities in the eastern part of the country. Clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces continue.
