Five anti-governmental protestors were killed in Syria, as security forces opened fire on demonstrators in an attack on the Omari mosque in the southern city of Deraa.

According to human rights organizations in Syria, the police used tear gas against the protestors, Lenta.ru reports.

On March 18, Syrian authorities dispersed crowd gathered in the southern city of Daraa. The demonstrators were protesting against ruling party, demanding political freedom and fight against corruption. The rally which followed a Friday prayer was attended by 3-4,000 people.
