The Armenian parliament began consideration of a bill on amendments to the Criminal Code, in particular those referring to the articles related to sexual offenses against underage.

Speaking in parliament MP Viktor Dallakyan said draconian laws must be applied to pedophiles. He stressed that medical and chemical castration of pedophiles is international practice. However, the bill proposed by Dallakyan does not suppose such methods. The toughest measure proposed by Dallakyan is 15 years’ imprisonment. This penalty, in particular, will be imposed in case of sexual crime against pregnant women, persons who are in helpless condition (sick, disabled), underage by their parents and teachers.

The MP stressed that on the whole all the article of draft bill provide for more severe punishment in case of crimes committed against underage.
