The office of President Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed announced that he is renouncing US citizenship, Associated Press reported.

The reasons for this unexpected decision by Mohamed have not yet been reported.

According to a statement published on Twitter, Mohamed made this decision voluntarily, and lawyers were involved in the process of renouncing citizenship.

The statement also said that under the Constitution of the country, dual citizenship is allowed in Somalia and many citizens left the country during the conflict because of this.

The President of the country lived for many years in the US and until his election as head of state in February 2017, he worked in Buffalo as a representative of the New York State Department of Transportation.
