YEREVAN. – The Law on the Human Rights Defender of Armenia was adopted in 2013, but in fact, the Human Rights Defender's institute started functioning in the country in 2004. National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan stated this in his speech during today’s conference at the NA, and dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Armenia's institute of Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman).

According to him, during those years the Ombudsman institute has come a long but a thorny way. "And it happened because of the lack of political will to create a truly democratic society," Mirzoyan added, in particular.

But he assured that after the velvet revolution, the best conditions were created in Armenia for the work of the Ombudsman institute.
