The new bill presented proposes to provide the Armenian Police with the opportunity to independently listen to the telephone talks of citizens who are suspects in a particular case, said My Step ruling bloc MP Armen Khachatryan.

According to him, taking into account the operational and investigative powers of the police, and also taking into account the fact that the police have an operational and technical specialized unit that has the appropriate specialists and technical base, this bill proposes to allow control and wiretapping of citizens' phone calls with the help of available technical means.

The deputy noted that today the Police are forced to make a similar request to the NSS, which already has a busy schedule. This bill will allow to a certain extent to remove from the NSS a number of obligations that are not within its powers, which will reduce the level of workload. Increasing the efficiency of her work.

Despite the negative conclusion of the Government, members of the parliament’s committee gave a positive conclusion to this bill.
